Roy
Johnstone lives in an old farmhouse on the Argyle Shore with his wife
Sarah Saunders (artist/graphic designer). Roy moved from Winnipeg to PEI
in 1978 and has pursued an eclectic life of ecological activism and music
making. He was one of the leading exponents in the resurgence of Celtic
music in Atlantic Canada. His interest in pursuing the range of musical
expressions for the violin have lead him to explore jazz and blues. He
has taken an active role in Arts advocacy and has been the music representative
on the Board of the PEI Council of the Arts and he was the PEI representative
on the Canadian Conference of the Arts. Roy has four solo recordings and
has composed and arranged music for several NFB, CBC and independent film
and TV productions. Roy was one of the Artscape project managers.
