ArtScape is a virtual directory and electronic showcase of artists in
Prince Edward Island, Canada. A joint initiative of the PEI Council of the
Arts (the provincial arts council) and the Federal Department of Human
Resources Development Canada (Youth Employment Strategy), the site was
officially launched on June 21, 2002.
Nine young people worked for a period of six months to build this web
site, from research through design, development and implementation.
Simultaneously the multi-talented participants explored personal creative
and professional growth opportunities with the purpose of pursuing
employment and / or further education in arts and culture.
The members of the project had a wide range of experiences and artistic
interests: high school to university graduates, photographers, musicians,
printmakers, graphic designers, and web programmers were all included in
their midst. Participants in the project were Luis Boisvert, Greg Boone,
Linnea Clough, Mike Lecky, Kirstie McCallum, and Shante Peddle.
(Three former participants in the project already have had success in
finding full time arts related work: Tyler Landry is now the illustrator for
Appellation America, a wine e-magazine based in Lunenburg, Nova
Scotia. Wade Shaw is working as Assistant Animator at Trapeze Media in
Charlottetown, PEI. Amiel Leblanc is working full time as a self-employed
Island craftsman, building a variety of percussion instruments.)
In a true spirit of community, the project received the invaluable
support of artists, educational institutions, businesses, and the like
throughout its duration. Island Services Network provides free studio space
for the site.
To artists and art afficionados alike, we invite you to discover the rich
creative landscape of Prince Edward Island through ArtScape.
